Diploma in Information and Communication Technology

The Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) program is structured around two key areas. First, it is designed to equip you for direct entry into the ICT job market in Vanuatu and potentially overseas. The program covers both technical professional skills and focuses on personal development and communication abilities. It aims not only to build your core IT competencies but also to foster your overall growth.

Second, with its broad nature, this program serves as a foundation for future specializations or further studies, either in employment-focused programs or academic pursuits, as part of the ongoing development of NUV's ICT education offerings.

As a graduate of this diploma, you will be able to:

  • Design, install, and secure basic computer and network systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve routine IT and network-related issues in both software and hardware.
  • Apply scientific reasoning, mathematical principles, and algorithmic concepts to real-world computing problems.
  • Use computer science theory and programming principles to design, develop, and implement web-based software and databases, including content management systems and eCommerce platforms.
  • Communicate technical and general concepts effectively in a variety of professional contexts, both orally and in writing, in English and French.
  • Work creatively and effectively as part of a team, planning, developing, evaluating, and delivering IT solutions.
  • Understand professional responsibilities and make informed, logical, and ethical decisions in computing practice, in line with applicable laws, standards, best practices, cultural sensitivity, intellectual honesty, and ethical principles.

As a graduate of this diploma, you will be prepared to pursue careers such as:

  • Network Technician
  • User Support Specialist
  • IT Support Technician
  • Full Stack Developer
  • Database Administrator
  • And other related positions

The program is open to students who have completed secondary school or a Certificate IV and meet the entry requirements. This is a 2-year, full-time, on-campus program delivered at the NUV main campus in Port Vila, beginning in February 2025. As an employment-focused program, you will attend classes during the first three semesters, while the final semester provides a full-time work-based learning opportunity through an internship with an IT company.
